CAO Open for Applications



Sixth Years are reminded the CAO facility is now open for applications and students can now make CAO applications even if they do not know what courses they are opting for.

Also Sixth Years are reminded that the closing date for Chanel Sixth Years to make an application is Friday 20/12/13.

Higher Options



All 6th year students from Chanel will be attending the Higher Options Careers Event on Wednesday the 18th of September.

Mr Woods requires 10 Euro from all 6th year students to attend. It is very important all students attend as this is the most important Careers Event in the Year.

CAO Change of mind/Army recruitment



The CAO change of mind facility is now open and students can change their minds as many times as they want until June 30th 2013.

Students should consider their options carefully after completing mock exams or if you dropped down to ordinary or foundation level.

Army now recruiting


The Naval Service Cadetship Competition has been launched online at www.military.ie. Applications can now be submitted through this website. The closing date for applications is Sunday  the 26th of May.
 
Naval Service Cadets are future Officers of the Naval Service. Officers are the managers, decision makers and future leaders of the Defence forces. Cadet training is approximately 2 years. It is part of a 5 year programme working towards either a Level 8 Honours Degree in Nautical Science or a Level 8 Honours Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
 
There are three different types of Cadetships:
  1. Operations Branch - Officers of the Operations Branch are responsible for the efficient running of the ship. Responsibilities include Bridge Watchkeeping, Weapons and Communications.
  1. Engineering Branch - Officers of the Engineering Branch are responsible for everything that keeps a ship afloat, moving and habitable.
  1. Electrical Branch - Officers of the Electrical Branch are responsible for the technical specification, selection, installation overhaul and maintenance for all electrical, electronic, communications, ordnance equipment and systems fitted to Naval Service ships.
The basic qualification requirement for Operations/Engineering Branch Cadetships is a minimum of a Grade C3 in 3 Higher level papers and a grade D3 in 3 Ordinary/Higher level papers, in a single sitting of the Leaving Certificate Examination. Candidates must pass English, Irish (exemptions apply) and Maths (for Marine Engineering Cadets candidates must achieve a minimum of a grade C3 in Higher Level).
 
Electrical Cadet candidates must hold a Level 8 degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering.

The lower age limit for Cadets is 18 years of age  and the upper age limit is under 28 years of age on the on 7th of October 2013

The selection process will take place over the coming months in different phases. Successful Cadets will commence training in September 2012.

CAO Change of Mind Facility

6th year Students are reminded that the CAO chanege of mind facility opens on the 05/05/13 and students can change their mind as often as they like at no cost until June 30th 2013.

PLCs are still accepting applications so if you havent yet made one it needs to be done asap.

SUSI will open up for applications in the next month, will give you an exact date closer the time.

PLC applications

At this stage all students should have complete CAO with course choices & remember all courses other than those which are restricted can be changed again from May 5th.

At least two PLC applications should be made directly to the College in question.

CAO/PLC and supporting documentation

All students are reminded to have 20 course choices filled in their CAO application and to check these preference with Mr Woods before 17/01/13.

HEAR/DARE applicants should have their supporting documentation in order at this stage and these should be posted direct with a certificate of posting and a photocopy of documents sent to

PLC colleges are now open for applications and these should be made online directly to the College in question: Colaiste Dhulaigh, Killester College etc etc

You need your PPS number and the school roll number which is 60550B

It is extremely important you are very deligent when applying via CAO as mistakes could cause you severe torment in August.
